A Residential Care Support Worker in a children’s home provides daily care, support, and guidance to children and young people who may be unable to live with their families. The role focuses on creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where young people can feel valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. This includes helping with daily routines, supporting education, promoting independence, and ensuring each child’s individual needs are met.

 

Safeguarding Children

The role involves building positive and trusting relationships with children and young people, often supporting those who have experienced trauma, adversity, or challenging life circumstances. Residential Care Support Workers act as positive role models, helping young people develop life skills, emotional resilience, confidence, and healthy relationships. They also work closely with families, social workers, schools, and other professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for each child.Safeguarding is a key responsibility within the role, requiring staff to promote the welfare and safety of children at all times. Residential Care Support Workers must be able to respond calmly and professionally to challenging situations, maintain accurate records, and follow care plans and safeguarding procedures. The role can be demanding but is highly rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people.
